After quite some time spent contemplating about WordPress, I finally decided to switch to that platform and abandon Blogger.

After testing WordPress for a week on my computer, I found it to be much more customizable and almost as user friendly as Blogger. A lot of WordPress features just cannot be implemented easily on Blogger, and I think Google should seriously consider giving the whole service a major overhaul. Things like Pages, advanced comment moderation, and great theme building support are only some features Blogger lacks.

Anyway, I hope you like the new looks of the blog, and of course if you have any comments or suggestions feel free to comment.

I wrote a story for defacto on Wednesday regarding some recent problems with AUBG’s e-mail system. I am happy to inform the AUBG community that the problems mentioned in the article have been resolved. To the best of my knowledge, AUBG’s e-mail web access is now fully functional.

The story was printed on the front page of defacto’s issue 32. You can read it here. Being frustrated by the communication breakdown caused by the problems with the e-mail system, defacto decided to push for the implementation of Google Apps for Education at AUBG. You can read more about that here.

However, almost immediately after the unidentified object made contact with its solid surface and even though its structural integrity was not in any danger whatsoever, her subconscious mind declared a state of emergency. Accordingly, all her internal organs switched to a different mode of operation. The frequency of her heart’s contractions increased and glands throughout her body produced all sorts of enzymes that made her more alert. Her senses thus became more sensitive, her brain sped up and so her conscious mind was under the impression that everything slowed down.

One would assume that when people experience betrayal they are less likely to bestow it upon another. However, that assumption is flawed. Betrayal spawns revenge and revenge is just another form of betrayal. Unless stopped early enough, it turns into a self-sustaining vicious circle that can only breed sadness.

He didn’t even need to call a cab. It was already there as if the driver was silently supportive of his decision. The truth was that the process worked like clockwork – cab drivers knew that there will be an “increased activity” around the hall, so they acted accordingly – it had nothing to do with him. Although he was fully aware of that fact, he let out a smile – is this a sign? He doesn’t believe in superstitions and so the smile quickly faded, but he couldn’t help but wonder: is this the right thing for him to do?

He had some time to kill at the bus station, so by mere observation he tried to find out if some other passengers shared his feelings. Even though most faces were familiar to him, he couldn’t read a single one. At the same time, the Preacher was trying to read him. They shared a lot, so the Preacher quickly realized what was going on. Surprisingly, he just stood there starring at him. The Preacher, the one who seemed always ready to advise his friends, was silent.

When they departed, he got that strange déjà-vu feeling. A little more than a year ago, the Preacher was also silent. However, the situation was different. On one hand, he didn’t really have a choice, and on the other his feelings were not the same.

The dilemma occupied his mind throughout his trip. Although he believed that the best way to solve a problem is to ask for help, he didn’t want to do it out of fear that he might hurt those he cares about most.

Towards the end of his trip the Preacher finally spoke: “The cards have been dealt, my friend. You can either risk and play, or fold and hope you’ll have better luck next time. I would take both the players and the pot into consideration before making my final decision.” What the Preacher was actually saying was pretty obvious: you have to analyze all the variables before making a decision and once you do there’s no point in contemplating about it.
